Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2, the co-op survival shooter from Cold Iron Studios, is out today — August 26, 2026 — on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version already in the works for later this fall. The sequel’s headline change: up to four players can now hunt xenomorphs together instead of three.
Bigger squads, deeper builds
The original Aliens: Fireteam Elite arrived roughly five years ago and earned solid word of mouth, GameSpew noted. Its sequel keeps the team-based combat loop but widens it. Players pick from the Duelist, Marauder, Machinist and Medic classes, and can unlock a fifth, fully customisable Specialist class that mixes abilities, perks and weapon proficiencies from across the roster. Character upgrade and perk systems have been reworked, with what GameSpew called deeper squad mechanics than before.
What you will be shooting
The fight takes place at the Storr Boon Mining Facility, and the enemy roster has grown. Alongside familiar xenomorph drones, players face Crushers that charge like armoured battering rams, Spitters that attack from range with acid, Exploders that detonate on death, and Synthetics — armed human enemies in the service of Weyland-Yutani. Techgenyz also reports Pathogen variants: mutated xenomorphs billed as the nastiest of the lot.

Who it is for
Techgenyz’s verdict is blunt: the game is an easy buy for friend groups who enjoyed Left 4 Dead or Helldivers 2, but solo players may want to pass, since the co-op focus shines brightest in a full squad. A Switch 2 version is being optimised for release later this fall, GameSpew confirmed.
Watch: What the videos show
Early hands-on: Aliens Fireteam Elite 2
The reviewer found a hidden fifth class that you unlock through actual game knowledge — it is never spelled out for you. A melee tool that looks like a gimmick early on becomes essential once xenomorphs start swarming from every corridor. The enemy design deliberately punishes habits players build in other co-op shooters, so every room genuinely feels dangerous.
IGN First preview: what is actually new
The sequel iterates on a proven formula — it keeps the core loop but adds a fourth player to every squad. Solo play is possible, but the reviewer says it is not recommended. The prologue puts returning ally Ko in trouble; missions launch from the hub ship USS Endeavor, where you buy weapons and pick your next drop.
